M R's Cont 2

Game v Banstead July 15th St Swithins Day..."To be or not to be"...t' was ever thus... We came ...we started... it pissed down... the square flooded...Noah built an Ark... we had tea... we went home... the stats don't count as only 15 overs were completed (min 20 required)... so Martin "Rocky" Lailey remains on 3,991 runs... despite scoring exactly the 10 he needed to pass that 4000 mark! Have to try again next week... though as the saying goes "if it rains on St Swithins Day it will rain for 40 days thereafter" so was this the last game of the season!!??!!

Game 7 v Headley July 26th... A truly enjoyable game with a great bunch of people, eclipsed only by the quite superb setting. An absolute must for next season and all those who missed out!

Well we lost..but it didn't really matter...Dougall skippered, won the toss and put them in. They scored 229 for 5 in a time game, with young Will Ballantine taking MofM with 3/40. Their skipper scored 100 and then declared. Griffith took 2/45.

We had a guest Toby Cutler, ex Dorset minor counties opening bat and opening bowler, and he looked the part, this man is class. Bowled well without taking a wicket, and top scored with a quick 25 before an unfortunate LBW. In fact we were 53/0, before losing Cutler/Perera/Lailey in quick succession, at which point it became clear we had to try and bat it out, and with Jerricho at the crease anything was poss, before being dismissed for 10 off 40 balls. Other scores: Lailey 15 (at last passing the 4000 run milestone..!) and Griffith 19, with no one else reaching double figures, a total of 111. Great day!!! (P.J)

Game 8 v Sutton August 5th... The hottest day of the year so far... and the lemmings wilted.. Sutton won the toss and put themselves in to bat and bat they did!... Big hitters..big scores.. Pick of our bowling by a mile was Joe Griffith with a remarkable 8o 5m 1w for 7runs! Not helped by Fawcett "breaking down" like an old Skoda after 4 overs the rest of the bowlers had a bit of a mare..Cross got 3 wkts but went for 75! The heat got to keeper Perera who had to go off for a lie down but came back on to bowl and get 2 for 46, Ali D with 1 for 35 off 5 completed the wicket takers but Sutton had rampaged to 293 for 7 at the tea interval.. 48 of which were extras!! No team has ever scored over 300 against us so that record was safe, but similarly we have never overhauled such a massive target either and this game upheld that record too!! Opener Talpe top scored with 23, New member Alex Cox ended 22 not out, there were FOUR ducks including a "goldie" for Shenley and Captain Cross quite obviously realising we weren't going to win this one magnanimously let a 9 year old Sutton lad bat in his place... young Patel finished 3rd highest score with 12 and Cross wants those runs added to HIS career stats!!! (joke) Max Howard again missed the chance to end his 4 season wait, needing 4 to pass the 2000 run mark...he was out for 1. Good to see Simon Webb back in the whites after too long an absence taking a great catch on the boundary, despite the barracking from the Sutton faithful, and using two keepers in an innings really buggers up the stats as both Perera and Shenley made sharp stumpings!
