08 Match Reports P2

18th May v Sutton 2nd XI they won and didn't offer us a drinks break ..so don't deserve a match report..

oh ok.. so it was a bit chilly, but i think this was the first time in my 28 seasons playing Sunday friendly cricket that we have not had a drinks break at 20 overs...bowlers, wicket keeper and especially their own batsmen still need refreshment even on a cool day...we also shouldn't be subjected to verbal about it either!...this attitude has been creeping in over the past couple of seasons and I'm not sure what has happened but this is not the Sutton we know and have loved playing since 1982...anyway with the exception of a stunning catch by Joe Griffith at mid off this was a rather dull affair...for some reason we are now playing their sunday seconds and if we are honest we know the only thing we might win is the toss...which Rocky did!... and put them in to bat. Yet again the brilliant Joe Griffith denied a wicket their opener edged the 3rd ball of the game, dropped by Teflon Trev behind the stumps...mind you it was flying!!... perhaps a bit too early for all concerned to get a peach of a ball like that!. oh er.. sorry I did promise Andreas no more fruit and veg puns...well that's shallot! For once we did actually take 6 catches including one for Trev to redeem himself and a pear (sorry) pair for Andreas! Jerricho and Dougall taking the others. Looker doubling his wicket taking tally was the only other highlight as they easily amassed their total and declaring 5 minutes before scheduled tea...which caught out catering as the kettle hadn't boiled either!!

.....not even "Jimmy Saville" could fix it for us...!

Having caught up with smokin' Jim "I've not been well" Howard over a sandwich and a cake or three we attempted to bat... if I now tell you that after a third wicket stand of 71 (Lailey & Perera) the next highest partnership was 6...you'll see how well we did!! Perera falling just 3 runs short of a half century after keeping wicket came off absolutely knackered...maybe he needed a drink.
